Why We Don’t Recommend Colorbond Above 2300mm

While taller fences can be built, Crawfords Fencing generally does not recommend standard Colorbond fencing above 2300mm overall height.

As fence height increases, so does wind loading.

The additional surface area places significantly greater pressure on the fence system and can lead to increased movement during high winds.

Where greater heights are required, engineered alternatives may be more suitable depending on the application.

One characteristic of Colorbond fencing that many homeowners don’t realise is that it behaves as a harmonic system.

Because every sheet is connected through the top and bottom rails, when strong winds push on one section, the movement can transfer through the entire fence run, creating a wave-like or “snake” effect.

At Crawfords Fencing, we help minimise this by installing 65mm powder-coated steel end posts at the beginning and end of every fence run.

These larger end posts provide stronger anchor points, giving the fence the best possible grounding and helping reduce movement throughout the system during strong winds.

Combined with correct footing depths, quality concrete and professional installation, this creates a stronger, more stable fence designed for Australian conditions.
